Co-Operative Bank Launches £300 Switching Bonus, Joins Competitive Market

The Co-Operative Bank has introduced a new incentive offering up to £300 for customers who switch their current account, positioning itself within a competitive landscape of banking deals. Existing customers of the bank or Coventry Building Society may be eligible for the full £300, while new customers can receive up to £200.

The payout is structured in stages. Upon initiating a full switch via the Current Account Switch Service (CASS), eligible customers will receive £125. This initial payment is followed by three monthly installments of £25, totaling £75, provided the account is actively used. For those who are existing Co-Operative Bank or Coventry Building Society customers as of June 21 and previously qualified for the £125 switch payment, an additional £100 will be awarded by November 2026.

To qualify for the initial £125 payment, customers must open a standard current account or the Everyday Extra account and meet several conditions within 30 days of the switch completion. These requirements include depositing at least £1,500, setting up at least two direct debits, using the debit card five times, and signing up for online or mobile banking.

The monthly £25 payments require meeting similar activity criteria, excluding the online or mobile banking sign-up. Customers are ineligible for the switching incentive if they have received one from the Co-Operative Bank since November 1, 2022.

The bank's move comes as several high-street banks are offering attractive switching bonuses. HSBC is currently offering £220 for a full switch, though it requires customers to spend £500 on their debit card within 60 days. Other offers include £200 from NatWest and First Direct (with a boosted offer until July 15), Barclays, and £180 from Santander, which also offers cashback on household bills through its Edge and Edge Up accounts for a monthly fee.

Coventry Building Society acquired Co-Operative Bank approximately 18 months ago. The bank has recently made other adjustments, including eliminating foreign exchange fees and reducing the monthly cost of its perks account from £18 to £12.
