China's Exports Jump 36.3% in September Amid Trade Rebalancing Pressure
Surge driven by high-tech goods like semiconductors and autos surpasses economist expectations.
China's exports saw a significant surge of 36.3% in September compared to the previous year, according to data released by the country's customs agency. This robust growth, which accelerated from August's 25% expansion, exceeded economists' expectations and comes as trading partners, including the European Union, are increasing pressure on China to rebalance trade.
The impressive export performance was propelled by strong shipments of high-tech goods, notably semiconductors and automobiles. Concurrently, imports also climbed, rising 31% year-on-year in September, an acceleration from August's 28.2% increase.
These figures resulted in a trade surplus for China of $133.5 billion in September, an increase from the $119.1 billion surplus recorded in August.
