Bezos Consortium in Advanced Talks for Liverpool FC Stake
A group including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire approximately 30% of Liverpool Football Club.
A consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia, which includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, has advanced talks to purchase a roughly 30% stake in Liverpool Football Club.
Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the current owners of Liverpool, confirmed in November that the group had "expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club." Bhatia, who previously served as a director and co-owner of Queens Park Rangers for 18 years before selling his stake last month, is the son-in-law of Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal.
Bezos, the founder of e-commerce giant Amazon, is listed as the fourth-richest person globally, with an estimated net worth of $256 billion, according to Forbes. FSG acquired Liverpool in 2010 for £300 million and has previously sold a minority stake in the club to the global sports investment firm Dynasty Equity.
