ASOS Data Breach Potentially Affects Thousands of Australian Customers

British online fashion giant ASOS has confirmed a data breach that could affect thousands of Australian customers. The company stated that "basic personal information" may have been compromised.

ASOS confirmed the breach occurred after customers received a mobile notification around 8 p.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time. The notification reportedly read, "Dear ASOS DPO and IT, we have fully compromised the Snowflake instance. Engage with us, or we will leak it."

Snowflake is a cloud-based data platform used by businesses to store information. An "instance" refers to a company's dedicated private space within the platform, housing its data and operations independently.

In a statement released after the unauthorized notification, ASOS indicated that it does not believe payment card details or passwords were impacted in the breach.
