Apple Announces Significant Price Hikes, Prime Day Offers Early Savings
Consumers face increased costs for MacBooks and iPads due to supply chain issues, with Prime Day providing a limited window for discounts.
Apple has announced a substantial price increase across several of its product lines, including MacBooks and iPads, citing ongoing memory chip supply chain challenges. The price adjustments, described as permanent for the foreseeable future by Apple CEO Tim Cook, mean consumers will soon face higher costs for these devices.
The price hikes are particularly notable for entry-level MacBooks and iPads. For example, the MacBook Neo, previously the most affordable model, is slated to increase to $699.99. The Apple 2026 MacBook Neo, an ultra-portable 13-inch laptop powered by the A18 Pro chip, features a 6-core CPU and a 16-core Neural Engine optimized for AI tasks. It includes a Liquid Retina Display, 8GB of Unified Memory, and a 256GB SSD, available in Silver, Indigo, Blush, and Citrus finishes.
Another affected model, the MacBook Air, is reportedly set to rise to $1,499, with some retailers already reflecting this new price. Previously priced at $1,299, this laptop is known for its bright display and efficient multitasking capabilities, powered by Apple's latest M chip.
In the iPad lineup, the iPad Mini's most basic version will start at $599. The model mentioned, with 128GB storage and both Wi-Fi and Cellular capabilities, is equipped with Touch ID, a 12MP wide camera, and 5G connectivity, and is compatible with Apple Pencil and Bluetooth keyboards.
The 13-inch iPad Air model is also subject to an increase, with the Wi-Fi-only version expected to cost $949. Currently, this model is available for $699 and offers 128GB of storage.
While Apple Watch and AirPods prices have not yet been officially announced to increase, the report suggests consumers should consider purchasing them during Prime Day sales to potentially avoid future price hikes.
In light of these upcoming price increases, Amazon's Prime Day event presents an opportunity for consumers to purchase Apple products at discounted rates. Prime Day, running from June 23 at 3 a.m. ET through June 27 at 3 a.m. ET, offers significant discounts on various items. This sale period is described as a rapidly closing window to acquire Apple devices before the price increases become widespread across retailers.
