Anthropic Revenue Soars to $16.8 Billion Ahead of Potential IPO
The AI company briefed investors on strong third-quarter earnings, signaling a potential major stock market debut.
Artificial intelligence firm Anthropic reported a significant increase in revenue, reaching $16.8 billion in the third quarter ending September 30. This represents a 45% surge compared to previous periods, according to information obtained by the BBC.
The company, known for its AI model Claude, disclosed these figures while briefing prospective investors at its San Francisco headquarters. These briefings are part of preparations for an anticipated large-scale stock market listing expected by the end of the year.
Anthropic's revenue has shown consistent growth throughout the year. It climbed from $4.7 billion in the first quarter to $11.6 billion in the second quarter, before reaching the $16.8 billion mark in the third. The financial performance of companies like Anthropic and its rival OpenAI serves as a key indicator of the artificial intelligence industry's expansion and its capacity to fund the necessary infrastructure for technological development.
This surge in revenue comes at a time when some technology stocks, particularly those involved in AI hardware and data centers, have faced pressure due to concerns over substantial investments in AI infrastructure. OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, is also reportedly considering a significant stock market debut, with expectations that it could be valued at over $1 trillion. However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated in September that the company would not go public this year, citing ongoing discussions about AI safety.
