Amazon Implements New 'Peak Fulfillment Fees' for Holiday Season
E-commerce giant adds surcharges to offset rising operating costs, potentially impacting shopper prices.
Amazon is set to introduce its "Peak Fulfillment Fees" for the upcoming holiday season, a move that will likely increase costs for sellers and potentially for consumers. The surcharges, first introduced as a temporary measure, are being reimplemented to address elevated operating expenses.
The additional fees include a fulfillment fee, which remains consistent with the previous year at approximately 32 cents per item, and a 3.5% "fuel and logistics" surcharge that was initially rolled out in April. These charges primarily affect sellers utilizing Amazon's fulfillment services, including Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), Remote Fulfillment with FBA, Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF), and Buy with Prime.
While Amazon states these fees are intended to recover actual cost increases, many sellers may pass these expenses onto shoppers through higher prices. For instance, an item with a standard fulfillment cost of $4.50 could see an increase to around $4.82, plus the 3.5% surcharge, during the peak season.
Amazon has advised sellers to send inventory to fulfillment centers earlier, recommending September and October for receiving shipments to ensure timely processing of orders during the busy holiday shopping periods, including Prime Big Deal Days, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. The company noted that capacity limits may be lower during these inventory receiving months.
The peak season for these fees will run from October 15, 2026, to January 14, 2027. Specific inventory deadlines have been provided for sellers to ensure their products are available for key sales events. For Prime Big Deal Days, AWD shipments are due September 2, and FBA shipments are due by September 9 or September 16, depending on shipment split options. For Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday, AWD shipments are due October 14, with FBA shipments due by October 21 or October 28.
Despite the added costs, Amazon is also bringing back an early submission discount for deals. Sellers who submit Prime Big Deal Days promotions by August 5 and Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday deals by September 5 can save $50 on the upfront promotion fee.
