Aldi Coffee Wins Gold at Prestigious Awards, Months After Wine Acclaim
The discount supermarket's Lazzio Luxe Reserve Nicaragua coffee earned a gold medal at the Golden Bean Awards Australasia, continuing a trend of award-winning products.
Aldi Australia's Lazzio Luxe Reserve Nicaragua coffee has secured a gold medal in the Espresso - Large Chain category at the Golden Bean Awards Australasia. This marks a notable achievement for the recently released coffee, which is now available across the country.
Alongside the gold medal winner, the Lazzio Luxe Reserve Guatemala coffee also received recognition, earning a Bronze medal in the Milk - Large Chain category. Both premium single-origin coffees are priced at $17.99 for a 500g bag, equating to approximately 36 cents per cup.
The Golden Bean Awards involve a blind tasting judged by industry professionals, with medals awarded for roasting excellence. Robert Eichfeld, Buying Director at ALDI Australia, expressed pride in the partnership with Melbourne Black Bag Roasters, emphasizing Aldi's commitment to providing freshly roasted Australian coffee at affordable prices.
The Lazzio Luxe Reserve Nicaragua offers a smooth, medium-roast profile with notes of citrus, caramel, and cocoa, balanced by a pleasant acidity. The Lazzio Luxe Reserve Guatemala provides a richer experience with hints of dark chocolate, toasted almond, caramel, and stone fruit. Both varieties are suitable for espresso and filter brewing, and can be enjoyed black or with milk.
This is not the first time Aldi's coffee has been recognized at the Golden Bean Awards. The supermarket chain has previously won the Overall Large Chain Champion title at the Golden Bean Awards Australasia multiple times, including in 2025, 2024, 2022, 2021, 2020, and 2019. Aldi also secured the Large Chain Champion title at the Golden Bean World Series in 2024.
The coffee's success follows closely on the heels of an award for Aldi's wine selection. Just weeks prior, the supermarket's Freya and Jules Riesling, retailing for $9.99, was awarded a Gold medal at the 2026 Sydney Royal Wine Show. The wine also received an Elite Gold at the 2025 Canberra International Riesling Challenge and Gold medals at the 2025 Royal Queensland Wine Show and the 2025 Melbourne International Wine Competition.
Sourced from South Australia's Clare Valley, the Freya and Jules Riesling is characterized by aromas of white florals and orange blossom, with notes of fresh lime and orange rind, finishing crisp and refreshing. An Aldi spokesperson highlighted the award as a testament to the quality delivered at Aldi prices, reinforcing that exceptional products do not require a high cost.
