AI Giants Anthropic and OpenAI Surpass McDonald's and Starbucks in Revenue

Artificial intelligence companies Anthropic and OpenAI are on track to surpass the combined revenue of fast-food giants McDonald's and Starbucks, signaling a dramatic shift in corporate financial landscapes. Anthropic, the creator of Claude AI, is projected to achieve $71 billion in revenue within the next year, while OpenAI anticipates $49 billion. In comparison, Starbucks is forecast to generate $37.2 billion, and McDonald's expects $29.6 billion in the same period.

This surge in AI revenue highlights the substantial investment boom occurring across corporate America. Companies are allocating billions to modernize operations and integrate AI into their workflows. The combined projected revenue of Anthropic and OpenAI is nearing the total expected from McDonald's, Starbucks, and Yum Brands, the parent company of Taco Bell and KFC.

Anthropic, founded just five years ago, has already raised over $100 billion and was valued at $965 billion as of May 2026. The company has established significant commercial customer bases in the finance, healthcare, and technology sectors, while expanding partnerships with cloud providers like Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud. OpenAI has also recently enhanced its ChatGPT Enterprise program and secured new agreements with businesses seeking AI-powered productivity solutions.

Despite the established, decades-long histories and extensive global presence of McDonald's and Starbucks, with over 80,000 combined locations worldwide, the adoption speed of generative AI technologies has proven to be a formidable force in the market.
