Agatha Christie's Estate Earns Over $25 Million in 2025

Agatha Christie Limited, the company managing the literary and media rights of the renowned mystery novelist, reported pre-tax profits of £20 million ($25.5 million USD) in 2025, an increase from £13.7 million ($17.5 million USD) the previous year. The company's revenue rose to £33 million ($42.2 million USD) in 2025, up from £22.7 million ($28.9 million USD) in 2024.

The surge in profits is attributed to a variety of ventures including television distribution, publishing agreements, and licensing deals. A new Miss Marple continuation novel, penned by Lucy Foley, is slated for publication in September, with publisher HarperCollins acquiring the rights for an undisclosed sum. Additionally, recent television productions such as "Seven Dials" on Netflix, "Towards Zero" on the BBC and Britbox, and the upcoming "Tommy & Tuppence" on Britbox contributed to the company's financial success. Agatha Christie Limited indicated that more television projects are in development.

Original television series featuring iconic characters like Poirot and Marple, produced by LWT and ITV Studios between 1989 and 2013, continue to perform well globally, demonstrating a consistent demand for classic adaptations alongside new content. Beyond screen and print, themed puzzle books and jigsaws also saw strong sales.

The play "Witness For the Prosecution" at London's County Hall maintained its popularity, and a British Library exhibition dedicated to Christie's life and works is scheduled to open in September. The company paid out a dividend of £9.25 million ($11.8 million USD) in 2025, an increase of £3.95 million ($5 million USD) from the prior year.

Agatha Christie Limited, established by the author herself in 1955 to manage her rights, is actively seeking further growth opportunities across television, publishing, film, and stage. The company sometimes co-funds TV productions to secure a share of the profits. Currently chaired by Christie’s great-grandson James Prichard, the company's ownership is shared between Christie's relatives and the US firm RLJ Entertainment, in which AMC Networks holds a significant stake.

While the estate continues to thrive, Agatha Christie Limited acknowledged potential future challenges related to copyright in the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence. Christie, who died in 1976, remains the best-selling novelist of all time, with an estimated two billion copies of her works sold worldwide. Financial analysts view Agatha Christie Limited as a prime example of successful long-term brand management for literary properties.
