Activewear Brand Stax Placed Into Receivership

Stax, a popular Australian activewear brand founded by Don Robertson and Matilda Murray, has been placed into receivership, according to reports from June 24, 2026. The company appointed receivers and managers on Wednesday.

Founded in a Perth bedroom in 2015, Stax experienced rapid growth, reaching a peak valuation of approximately $52 million and earning the couple a spot on the 2022 Young Rich List. The brand became known for its premium activewear that balanced performance and style, earning praise from celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Lizzo, Megan Fox, Rita Ora, Hailey Bieber, and Addison Rae.

FTI Consulting receiver Joseph Hansell stated that Stax is a well-known Australian brand with strong customer support. The business is continuing to trade as usual while receivers conduct an urgent assessment of its operations.

The company's journey began with Robertson and Murray packing orders from their homes. They strategically used local influencers and sold at markets, initially gifting products to gain exposure. This grassroots approach, coupled with word-of-mouth marketing in Perth, contributed to the brand's early success.

In 2019, the founders relocated to Sydney to further expand the brand. However, the company faced challenges, including closing six of its eight stores in 2025 due to rising interest rates. Stax currently operates two boutique stores in Sydney and Liverpool, alongside its online presence.
